How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief?
My brief is to produce a lifestyle magazine, suitable for retail distribution to those between 16-25 years old. 'life etc.' will engage the unexplored demographic of young adults, and fill the gap that Hearst magazines have not yet specifically reached for, and therefore I will feature subjects such as sustainability, education, and social media as the featuring subjects of my magazine- something which a quick survey within the target age range has revealed is a key focus for my brief's demographic. As my target audience isn't conventional within lifestyle magazines, my approach will differ from conventions I have explored. The mise en scene will remain simple and easy to navigate. The colour palette I will use will tie in with the images to remain aesthetically pleasing; and I will use simple fonts and lowercase typography to appeal to the more casual viewership of the 16-25 demographic. My first edition's contents page will feature a double page spread in order to introduce the team, and highlight the young creators that will align with the intended readership; using first names to remain personal, and a brief letter outlining the connection between producers and audience.
The same style will be sustained through the strong sense of branding from the production, to the website. The aesthetic and soft colour palette will be maintained, as well as the easy navigation and font. Akin to other lifestyle magazine websites, the name of the magazine will be at the top, alongside the same tagline present on the magazine. There will be images featuring the creators of the magazine to create a more homely feel to the magazine and it's website, which will continue through to the hyperlinked 'about us' page. There will be an option to purchase the magazine very clearly underneath the category buttons, as well as previews further throughout the home page of the type of content available. I will also include some notes towards subscribing for the magazine, as well as easy links to the social media.
How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production?
Each issue on both its front pages and contents pages will feature the social media handle, as well as the website being advertised clearly in both contents pages. The first edition's double spread contents will feature a note from the team, inviting them to follow the social media accounts personally, rather than simply having the handle there for readers to choose to notice or not. Due to the demographic, I figure it will be more appealing and recognisable for users to see a social media handle, rather than a website link; purely as social media is more accessible and enticing to young people than a website. However, the website link will still be present on both contents pages.
